Your step-by-step guide to planning the perfect Via Francigena pilgrimage.
Open the Routes page to see the Via Francigena — the 2,000 km Canterbury to Rome pilgrimage. It shows the start, end, total distance and estimated days. Click the route to start planning it.
On the planner, select where you'll begin and end your walk. You can start from Canterbury or any town along the way — great for shorter trips or the last 100km to Rome.
Pick your departure date. The planner automatically calculates each day's date so you know exactly when you'll arrive in each town.
We generate a day-by-day plan with distances, elevation, difficulty and weather. Click any day to see details, or any town to read its guide.
Open the Bookings panel from the planner. Tap 'Book next (Town)' to open Booking.com with your dates and town pre-filled, then tap 'Mark' to flag each stay as reserved once booked.
Before you go, get a pilgrim passport (credenza) from a Via Francigena association or your first stop. Stamp it daily to earn your Testimonium in Rome.
Visit our Gear Tips page for a bulletproof packing list, health advice, and everything you need to walk comfortably and safely.
Gear TipsPro tip: Toggle between English and Italian anytime using the flag selector in the top bar. Your plan is saved automatically as you go.
