Why we created FrancigenaPlans?
The Via Francigena is a 2,000 km pilgrimage from Canterbury to Rome, walked for over a thousand years since Archbishop Sigeric traced the route in 990 AD. But planning it has always been harder than it should be.
Coordinating a journey across England, France, Switzerland and Italy meant juggling dozens of websites — piecing stage distances together on spreadsheets, hunting for accommodation in tiny villages, checking mountain weather for each section, and guessing what gear the Alpine crossings would demand. Some stages had confusing or overlapping names. Others had almost no information at all.
"Why isn't there a single place to plan the whole Via Francigena?"
That's why FrancigenaPlans was created.
Most Via Francigena sites hand you a fixed itinerary — someone else's stages, stops and daily distances. FrancigenaPlans is the only platform that lets you build your own route from scratch, tailored to your budget, your fitness, your time and your preferences. Want shorter days? Start from a different town? Fit the walk into a two-week holiday? Here you're in control — you set the pace, you set the budget, you set the schedule, and we handle the rest.
We believe planning the Via Francigena should be easy, intuitive and free. From Canterbury to Rome, you should be able to:
No sign-up required for basic planning. No hidden fees. Just a straightforward, beautifully designed tool that respects your time and your dream of walking to Rome.
We're a small team of pilgrims and walkers who believe everyone — spiritual seekers, fitness enthusiasts, or adventure travellers — deserves the tools to plan confidently and walk freely.
Safe travels on your journey!
